Podiatric Acupuncture is the use of acupuncture as a therapeutic tool, by podiatrists, to treat diseases and ailments of the lower limbs and to provide anaesthetic relief during podiatric surgery.
Acupunture needles are placed along meridians (in acupuncture and Chinese medicine) each of a set of pathways in the body along which vital energy is said to flow. The needles are placed at specific locations along these meridians called acupoints, releasing endorphins providing a method of natural pain relief, helping the body to heal itself.
In podiatric acupuncture needles are also placed into trigger points, muscles and touch bone to cause a therapeutic response.
